We at Revive are so excited to be involved in the Glasgow Rocks game on Sunday 14 October!  So much so that our new Interim Chief Executive, Iain Morrison, took some friends along to the Rocks first ever game at the new Emirates Arena.

Here's what he thought of the new arena and seeing his first ever live basketball game!

What were your first impressions of the brand new Emirates Arena, the new home of the Glasgow Rocks?

Spectacular! When you first walk in you're greeted by this lovely big concourse, which just smells 'new'.  There's lots of natural light shining in, and you just get a sense of the immense size of the place - it's BIG!  It's going to be great for the Commonwealth games, as you can see how it will be mutli-functional with the athletics track round the court, and the view, even from the back row, is great!

How did you find the parking for the arena, and what was the catering like?

I found the parking facilities really good, though coming close to game time the traffic was slow.  Some people were parking in Celtic Park carpark across the road to avoid the queues.  I would recommend heading over early to avoid delays.

The one down-side I found was the cost of food and drink at the arena.  A small box of popcorn will set you back £3.50, so that was disappointing!

You've watched basketball on the tv before, but how would you compare that to a live game?

No comparison to tv at all, the atmosphere was great!  You just can't beat a live event!  End to end, the pace of the game was fantastic, and the Rockettes were a definite highlight at break times!

At one point, the Rocks were 10 points ahead and then they started falling behind,  it was only right up to the end when you realised they weren't going to claw it back! Enthralling!

I know that you are a keen football fan and regularly attend live matches, how did this compare to a live football match?

I think that the biggest difference between a live football match and a live basketball game in the UK, is having the passion from 2 sets of fans supporting their own team.  Basketball is still fairly young compared to football, so they're still building up their fan-base.  There were a small band of away supporters, which didn't compare to the Glasgow supporters.  The Rockettes and commentary at the game were great to get you shouting and participating in the game, and that's where the great atmosphere comes from!

To sum up, why should our supporters come along to the game on the 14 October?

There's 3 good reasons why:
  1. To experience the fantastic atmosphere of a live basketball game
  2. to see this amazing new sports venue
  3. to have a great night out in a family-friendly environment
Oh...and to support Revive of course!  For all tickets purchased from Revive, the charity keeps 50% of the ticket cost.  We will also be holding a brilliant raffle, and you can even get your face painted!  To come along and join in the fun, please contact Cara for tickets on 0141 945 3344 or cara@revivemssupport.org.uk.  You can also join the event on our facebook events page!
