Oct. 22-25, 2012Zhenjiang, ChinaAntioxidant Activity and Composition Analysis of Corn BeePollen OilSUN Li-ping*, XU Xiang, HE Wei(Bee Research Institution, The Chinese Academy ofAgricultural Sciences, Beijing 100093,China)The capacity of bee pollen oil is evaluated by these threeindicators: ABTS, DPPH radical scavenging and the phosphomolybdate complex. Thecontent of carotenoid is determined by spectrophotometry, and the phospholipid compositionis quantitatively analyzed by HPLC. The results show that corn bee pollen oilshave strong scavenging ability on the ABTS, DPPH free radicals, and the IC50values are 0.26±0.01mg/mL,2.20±0.05mg/mL respectively. A strong antioxidant capacityhas also identified by the Phosphomolybdate complex method. Corn Bee Pollen, inwhich carotenoid content is 16.21 ± 0.84 mg/100g and the total phospholipidcontent is 2.98 ± 0.02g/100g, contains five phospholipid composition, namely,PI, PS, PE, PC, LPC. The proportion of carotenoids and total phospholipid ingrease is 0.21% and 38.11%. However, most MS patients missed their golden treatment periodsbecause of allergic reactions after high dose of BVT treatments. 【Purpose】Thepurpose of this study is to investigate the effect of integrated Apitherapy(Bee venom Treatment) on Multiple Sclerosis patient. 【Method】A48-year-old female was suffering from blurred vision and weakness of limbssince 2000. Patient was admitted to Taiwan Chang-Hua Christian Hospital becauseof weakness of limbs and blurred visions. Patient developed shortness of breathand headache later. Because of lacking of improvement,she was transferred to NationalTaiwan University Hospital (NTUH) later. CT scan performed in NTUH revealed 13pathological lesions were found in her brain. The diagnosis of MultipleSclerosis was made after the CT scanning and abnormal laboratory studies ofserum and CSF. She was admitted to NTUH for medical treatments for two years. However,there was no obvious improvements after two years medical treatment in NTUH.She visited our Apitherapy clinic on September 5,2002. She was carried to ourApitherapy Clinic by her family members to receive Bee Venom Therapy (BVT)three times weekly. Blood examinations of serum Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgE) wereperformed regularly to monitor the dosages of Apitherapy. We adjust the BVT doseto maintain the serum IgG level above 1000 mg/dl during the whole BVT course.We lowered the BVT dose or stopped the BVT treatment if patient developedallergic reactions after high BVT dosing treatment. Totally 3098 bees venomwere used in four months of BVT treatments. 【Result】After received four months of BVT treatment, she startedwalking on her own on January 15,203. The blurred visions, weakness of limbsand shortness of breath were improved. 【Discussion】Multiple Sclerosis is a common disease in North Americaand Europe. There was no effective medical treatment up to present time.Apitherapy was reported to be effective in early phase of Multiple Sclerosis patients.However, most Multiple Sclerosis patients stopped BVT treatment because ofdeveloped allergic reactions after high dose of BVT. However, we shall miss thegolden treatment periods if we stopped the BVT too long. And in North Americaand Europe, family members will care about the allergic reactions after BVT. Laboratoryexaminations of serum Immulogublins regularly provide a therapy guide lines inadjusting the dosing of BVT. The combinations of Medical Nutrition Therapy(MNT) during BVT will decrease the risks of allergic reactions and enhance theeffects of BVT. High proteins diets may enhance the serum levels of IgG. The palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE) is the onlyclinical adverse event that commonly occurs with capecitabine and/or pegylatedliposomal doxorubicin treatment and it warrants special attention because it isthe most common dose-limiting toxicity. This study is designed to test theeffectiveness of a henna and propolis treatment protocol in the management ofcapecitabine and/or pegylated liposomal doxorubicin induced palmar-plantarerythrodysesthesia.

GC-MS was used to determine both the qualitativeand quantitative data. 【Result】The content of volatile oil in the propolis was in thefollowing order: supercritical CO2 extraction > ethanol extraction >propolis glue. The content of volatile oil in the propolis extracted bysupercritical CO2 was 23.45% higher than the propolis extracted with ethanol.The results of GC-MSindicated that propolis extracted using supercritical CO2method recorded a high content of volatile oil (54.8%) in two kinds of commonvolatile componential extracts which was superior to the propolis extractedwith ethanol. More than 1% of the composition of volatile propolis extracted bysupercritical CO2 method accounted for 64.7%. This indicated that the volatileoil composition in propolis extracted by supercritical CO2 method was betterthan the ones extracted with ethanol. Especially terpene; a kind of componentfound in the propolis extracted by supercritical CO2 was 1.5 times higher thanthe propolis extracted with ethanol. 【Conclusion】The content of propolis extracts and its volatile oil washighest in the propolis extracted by supercritical CO2. GC-MS was used to determine both the qualitativeand quantitative data. 【Result】The content of volatile oil in the propolis was in thefollowing order: supercritical CO2 extraction > ethanol extraction >propolis glue. The content of volatile oil in the propolis extracted bysupercritical CO2 was 23.45% higher than the propolis extracted with ethanol.The results of GC-MSindicated that propolis extracted using supercritical CO2method recorded a high content of volatile oil (54.8%) in two kinds of commonvolatile componential extracts which was superior to the propolis extractedwith ethanol. More than 1% of the composition of volatile propolis extracted bysupercritical CO2 method accounted for 64.7%. This indicated that the volatileoil composition in propolis extracted by supercritical CO2 method was betterthan the ones extracted with ethanol. On the secondstep drip a couple of drops into the sample window. The dose of bee should be adjusted according to different people,time and illness. A new patient with a small dose is better. Bee Sting quantitygenerally starts from 1-2, the allergy period maintain 1-3 is appropriate. Thedose of patients who had bee needle therapy for a long time may be appropriateto increase, generally maintained at about 10. Severe cases may whereappropriate, increase to 30 to 50. Physically weak, sick light, re-treatmentshould be a small amount of bee needle treatment. Physically strong, theseriously ill who may be appropriate to increase the bee amount. For patientswith light disease 1 time a week or two week, they often recover after string1-3 times. For patients with general acute or severe diseases, once a day,continuing for 2-3 courses or more of treatment. For prevention of recurrence,consider once a month. Small bee dose can’t treat the disease, excessive leadto serious consequences.
