“TaylorWilson, rich and creamy, has the voice to die for” The Herald
Taylor Wilson’s versatility assinger and actress is leading her to acclaim as a recording artist, and in thetheatre, cabaret and film world.
As part of Voices in PaisleyFestival Fringe, Taylor Wilson willbring her cabaret style ‘Alchemy’- a recent sell-out at the West End Festival -to Paisley. She will be in Holy Trinity and St. Barnabas Church on 2 November2012 at 8pm performing a heady concoction of songs from the intimate world of EdithPiaf, Cole Porter and Berlin cabaret, to the sensual works of Astor Piazzollaand Portuguese Fado. Taylor is accompanied by Karen MacIver on piano andaccordion (PRS British Composer Award 2010 – Community / Educational Project)and Rudi de Groote on cello (principal cellist, Orchestra of Scottish Opera). Shewill forego her microphone and take full advantage of the church’s naturalacoustic….a glorious evening ahead.
Taylor is a classical singer, yet she has always straddled many musical genres. What sets her apart fromother operatically trained singers is that when Taylor ventures intocontemporary styles, she can forsake herlush vibrato, straighten out her tone and unleash notes that cut across musicalcategories to seize the essence of the song.
She works with cutting-edgeensembles and groups such as Scottish Voices (with whom she recorded a CD inVirginia), the Research Ensemble and last year created one of three lead rolesin a newly-written chamber opera, Flight Paths, as part of the CulturalOlympiad. She is a regular performer atthe Edinburgh Festival both as chanteuse (her one-woman show) and recitalist oflieder and contemporary music - often written for her. She has often performedwith the McFall’s Chamber Orchestra, recorded for film and television andperformed in the Edinburgh International Jazz festival for legendary Americanpianist, Dick Hyman.
Taylor is currently working on aone-woman piece about Piaf and Dietrich which she has been work shopping in theU.K with John Binnie and in New York with cabaret specialist, Helen Baldassare.
